LOWER DANUBE. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 15.87 g, 11 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. Celticized Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and lion skin formed out of pellets in his left; legend degraded to pellets. Dembski -. Flesche -. Lanz -. Lukanc pl. 150, 1702. OTA Class 5. A lovely example of charmingly crude style. Traces of overstriking and with some minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
